About the DFA

The Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) represents more than 950 teaching, research, librarian and counselling faculty at Dalhousie University.  Under the leadership of a volunteer Executive Committee, DFA deals with employee-employer relations and issues of common interest to our members.  We also address broader interests of the academic community.

We were formed in 1951, and on November 24, 1978, the DFA was certified by the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board as a Bargaining Agent under the “Trade Union Act” of Nova Scotia.  We have the exclusive authority to bargain collectively on behalf of those members in the Bargaining Unit.  We are affiliated with the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT). Membership in the DFA includes membership in CAUT.
